Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Paul Atkins is moving to establish leadership at the Commission to help him effectuate his policy goals. Today, the SEC announced several new leadership additions. This includes the Director of the Division of Investment Management and the Director of Trading and Markets.
The SEC states that Brian T. Daly will become the new Director of the Division of Investment Management, effective July 8. For the past four years, he has been a partner in the investment management practice at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Previously, he was a partner in the investment management group at Schulte Roth & Zabel.
Atkins said he is “looking forward to working with Brian on common-sense regulation that does not impose unnecessary burdens and genuinely embraces the public comment process.”
Jamie Selway has been named as Director of the Division of Trading and Markets, effective June 17, 2025. He was most recently a partner at Sophron Advisors and previously was a managing director and head of electronic brokerage at Investment Technology Group, a global institutional broker. Selway said that Atkins is bringing a “new day at the SEC.”
Kurt Hohl has been named the Chief Accountant at the SEC. Hohl most recently founded Corallium Advisors and previously spent 26 years at EY.
Erik Hotmire will return to the SEC as Chief External Affairs Officer and Director of the Office of Public Affairs. Hotmire worked with former Chairman Chris Cox. He also served in the George W. Bush White House as a domestic policy spokesman.
Atkins is working to reverse the policies of the prior administration, which largely ignored the benefits of digital assets while pursuing a social agenda misaligned with the realities of capital markets.
