Renewable energy solution provider Antaco has successfully secured its initial 400,000 through its equity crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs, which recently launched and has so far attracted more than 300 investors. Founded in 2011, Antaco is on a mission to become the world leader in turning organic waste into carbon-neutral biofuel.
“We offer a game-changing solution for organic waste disposal. Supported by the UK Government, we have developed a revolutionary waste processing technology, transforming any type of organic waste into carbon-neutral fuel. Inventive and forward-thinking, we pride ourselves on doing things differently and achieving notable results.”
Antaco claims it is among the highest achieving Cleantech companies in the UK, having been voted top UK and EU Cleantech start-up by Climate-KIC and the European Institute of Technology and Innovation. The company recently announced it has been awarded a grant of more than CHF 1,000,000 by the Swiss Innovation Agency, Innosuisse, for its Phosphorus Recovery Project. According to Antaco, The CarboPHOS project is in collaboration with leading Swiss academics and is set to change the wastewater landscape through the harvesting of valuable phosphorus from sewage sludge.
“Phosphorus is one of the three main primary macronutrients, critical for all life forms on earth. 90% of mined phosphorus is used in food production, posing a huge strain on natural reserves, and their depletion is putting global food supply in jeopardy. The waste from wastewater treatment plants contains a large, but often underexploited source of phosphorus (∼1 kg cap−1 yr−1). This is why it has been traditionally spread on land. However, this is set to change.”
Antaco noted that due to new legislation that is in force in Switzerland and Germany it will soon be mandatory to recover phosphorus from sewage sludge, which can be done from ash after mono-incineration or from Antaco’s process water.
Funds from the Seedrs campaign will be used to continue the development of Antaco’s project. The funding round is set to close mid-October.
