Japan-based developer White Owls has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Fig to raise $1.5 million for its new video game The Good Life. The studio describes The Good Life as a debt repayment life simulation RPG. Its full description reads:
“Naomi is a photographer from New York. After a scandal left her in debt, she took on a job that sent her to ‘the happiest town in the world,’ a rural English town out in the middle of nowhere. Photographing evidence of the town’s many secrets and sending them back to her client daily will earn her some very nice rewards… But most of Naomi’s comments start with the words ‘I hate,’ and she can’t stop complaining… Will this city slicker be able to survive out in the British backwoods?”
White Owls also shared:
“As an étrangère, players feel both alienated yet strangely comfortable. An RPG-style town filled with fun activities and fascinating people… Our twisting, mysterious story will have you captivated… Make friends, solve mysteries, and become emotionally invested!”
It was also noted that The Good Life isn’t just a game where players pay off Naomi’s debt. While most of the time she photographs different things and uncovers the Rainy Woods’ secrets, Naomi also encounters a body of a young girl who was pierced in the heart by an ancient, medieval sword, grasping nothing but a flower in her hands.
“Naomi originally came to Rainy Woods in order to uncover the secrets of the happiest town in the world and use her reports to pay off her debt. But when she discovers the body of the wheelchair-ridden Elizabeth, it sets her journalist heart ablaze. And so, while she continues to pay off her debt, she also decides to find out the truth about Elizabeth’s death.”
The game will be available for PC and PS4. Since its launch, the campaign has successfully secured more than $215,000 from nearly 1,400 backers. It is set to close on October 12th.
