Snapshot Games’ “Phoenix Point” Completes Fig Round: Raises More Than $765,000 From Over 10,300 Backers

Last week, Snapshot Games completed the crowdfunding campaign on Fig for its latest project Phoenix Point. Originally seeking $500,000, the initiative successfully raised a total of $765,948 from 10,314 backers.

As previously reportedPhoenix Point was notably created by Julian Gollop, the veteran designer of the original X-COM games, and David Kaye, the founder of Gaming Insiders. It is described as a turn-based tactics and world-based strategy sci-fi game. Its story reads:

“The spread of alien Pandoravirus was an unimaginable extinction event, nearly wiping out all human life. The fortunate majority were quickly killed off by the virus, but some were mutated by the aggressive virus, which attacks human DNA sequences and imbeds its own transformative DNA, thereby mutating humans into horrifically disfigured alien species with the ability to clone. Those who somehow survived gather in isolated havens spread throughout the world, with several of the largest and most powerful factions of radically contrasting ideologies controlling most of the world’s resources.

According to Snapshot Games, Phoenix Point notably draws inspiration from a deep pool of talented developers from companies such as Ubisoft Sofia and Crytek Black Sea, and games such as XCOM 2 and X-COM Apocalypse.

Following the campaign’s closing, the Snapshot Games’ team revealed:

We are now busy recruiting new members for our team, with 4 confirmed appointments already – all due to start in July. The Fig campaign has helped immensely to attract some very talented people. The aim is to reach around 30 developers before the end of the year. You can rest assured that we will be able to build a super team here at our Sofia studio.”

Those who are still interested in investing may do so through Fig’s Slacker Backer feature. Pledges from the Slacker Backers will count towards the initiative’s funding target. Phoenix Point is expected to release in the fourth quarter of 2018 for PC, MAC, and Linux.
