Kickstarter and Crowdcube alum, PrimoToys, announced on Monday the launch of its new initiative, Girls Can Code Too. The company revealed:
“This is a well-documented shortage of female science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions in the UK. For years, the industry has battled with the stagnant numbers of female employees, yet male counterparts have appeared to thrive. According to a study by Girls in STEM, only 6% of British STEM professionals in the UK are female. PrimoToys is making steps to raise awareness of the issue, particularly in light of International Women’s Day. The company will launched their #CodingGirls campaign as they seek to introduce the basic principals of programming to girls in their preliterate years.”
As part of the initiative, PrimoToys has formed a partnership with Mums in Technology and is offering free units of its Cubetto for use in their “First Steps of Coding” classes, which will teach moms the basics of computer coding. June Angelides, CEO of Mums in Technology, stated:
“Primo’s contributions to our program will open many doors for us. Ideal for mothers with preschoolers, Cubetto is completely unique in the sense it presents a team working activity that will get mothers and children mutually involved in program writing.”
COO of PrimoToys, Valeria Leonardi, added:
“It’s so important we encourage young girls to develop an interest in programming; the earlier this better. With the help of Cubetto, girls can develop their basic programming skills such as debugging and functions, while creatively engaging in ongoing adventurous journeys with Cubetto. At the same time, children can also develop their abilities in other core areas, from team building to problem solving.”
