The Senate Committee on Banking,Housing and Urban Affairs will meet on March 10th to review President Obama’s nominations for SEC Commissioners. Hester Peirce and Lisa Fairfax were selected to fill openings on the Commission following the departure of former Commissioner Gallagher and former Commissioner Aguilar. Peirce, a former Senate staffer and is currently a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University and director of the Financial Markets Working Group. Peirce previously served as a staff attorney and counsel to Commissioner Atkins at the SEC. Peirce graduated from Yale Law School.
Fairfax is the Leroy Sorenson Merrifield Research Professor of Law at the George Washington University Law School. Fairfax’s academic interests include corporate governance matters, fiduciary obligations, board diversity, shareholder activism, and securities fraud. She published a book entitled “Shareholder Democracy: A Primer on Shareholder Activism and Participation”. Fairfax is a graduate of Harvard Law School.
