Less than 10 days following the launch of its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, Jibo, noted as the world’s first ever family robot, has raised over $1,075,00 from more than 2,300 backers. Has reached the top 15 most funded ever on Indiegogo and has been recognized as one of the top 10 most funded tech projects.
As previously reported, Jibo an interactive companion that knows you and brings intelligence, helpfulness and personality to experiences for every member of the household. Unlike the gadgets and other tech in the household, Jibo fits in more like one of the family.
As the creators explain, as soon as Jibo arrives into the home, he will start to learn about the owner. The interactive robot has the ability to recognize the difference voices and faces in the family. Jibo is designed to provide “companionship” and will assist the owner to coordinate and manage daily activities. Jibo is designed to bring expression and playfulness to everything he does.
Jibo Inc. will create the initial core skills and features. The JiboAlive SDK program, an open developer platform, will let third-party developers create and bring to life new functionality, content, and services, all with the goal of providing meaningful and an ever-expanding ways for Jibo to engage with people. Eventually, Jibo will also interface to devices in the house to humanize the connected home of the future.
After hitting over $750,000 this past weekend, the Jibo team updated backers by stating, “It’s Day 4 and we have raised more than $750k from over 1,600 funders! We are deeply appreciative of the unbelievable amount of support.”
The team also shared the following “Fun Stats”:

Since the campaign hit its $1,000,000 stretch goal, the company will release a FREE Expression Pack on the JIBO Store. This comes with a collection of “move tones”: Special animation + movement messages that JIBO can perform.
