Tinyworld Wants to Teach You a Second Language and They are Crowdfunding on Indiegogo

Tinyworld connecting the worldEducation is an area ripe for disruption.  Even the  godfather of the concept of “disruptive innovation”, Clayton Christensen, has written a book on how the way we learn does not always fit with the way we are taught.  The team at Tinyworld wants to change the way we learn and they are starting with a social e-learning platform and tackling an area which is ripe for change.

Tinyworld platform viewLearning a second language is tough unless you are gifted or happen to move to a different country for a few years.  Sure the traditional classroom approach can teach a language but being there is always better. The next best thing is using technology to generate a dynamic, social learning platform where you can engage native speakers – and this is where Tinyworld comes in.  With over 1.3 Billion trying to pick up a second language around the world – there is definitely a market for a creative service like Tinyworld.

Tinyworld is building a dynamic, practical and interactive platform where those who want to learn a language can interact with teachers in a virtual environment.  When it comes to learning a second language, getting started is one thing, but keeping it going is something else. To make it practical, users have to find consistent value in using the platform – and Tinyworld has created the platform to accomplish this task.

Tinyworld ComparisonThe company has combined technology to create an educational environment with:

  • Real Time Streaming
  • Chat Rooms
  • Massive Open Online Courses
  • A Student Forum
  • One on One tutoring
  • and more

After having planned this concept for months,  the organizers are now raising money on Indiegogo.  Their objective is to crowdfund $50,o00 to complete their vision.  This is a concept born of need.  The campaign creators understand the  struggle of learning another language and I can empathize with them having studied 4 and never completely mastered any.

Andrew WongRaised in Shanghai, Andrew Wong – the Tinyworld founder, is also running the NY Entrepreneurs Business Network (NYEBN).  The NYEBN has become one of the go to gatherings for startup founders in New York.  Wong did not make it to the shores of the United States until his twenties where he arrived to finish his college education.  His global experience with cultural change, and first hand dealings with learning the nuance of his new environment, has pushed him to create an educational environment for innovation.

Technology has made the world smaller.  Communication is constant but context is sometimes lost.  Learning  a second language is not just repetition, it is cultural interaction and engagement. Tinyworld is striving to tackle this ongoing challenge with their unique e-learning platform – and hopefully change the way we learn.
