Recent developments

There is no doubt that marketplace lending has faced some challenges in the first half of 2016. Yet if you look at the general trend throughout Q1, few markets got off lightly; for example Europe’s securitisation industry’s sales were at their lowest in 5 years.

Strong Signs

Marketplace lending however is still moving forward with repeat issuances coming from many existing players such as Avant, CommonBond and OnDeck, and with a deal in the pipeline for Kabbage.

OnDeck has also made clear its committment to further balance sheet securitisations as it seeks to continue its steady growth into 2016 and beyond.

And despite concerns over Lending Club, their fundamentals are strong with their first ever quarter of positive EPS.

In Europe Funding Circle’s inaugural SBOLT deal came to market with a strong Aa3 rating from Moody’s on the A-notes. Whilst new issuance is struggling in Europe, marketplace lending is providing real optimism for securitisation.
