Regulating the Disruption Economy – San Francisco

March 20, 2015 @ 8:45 am - 6:00 pm EST
Disruptive technology companies are transforming the way people use traditional services, from hailing a taxi to large-scale fundraising. Inevitably, questions of regulation are becoming increasingly important. Must regulation follow innovation? If so, how do regulators enter these new areas of the economy?
To investigate these questions, the Hastings Business Law Journal, Hastings Science & Technology Law Journal, and Institute for Innovation Law are hosting a one-day symposium featuring practitioners, regulators, academics, and experts in innovative technologies.
The symposium is designed to drive a conversation about the interactions between disruptive companies and the officials challenged with regulating them. Panels will focus on three business models in particular: digital currencies, equity crowdfunding, and the sharing economy. Government officials will also provide broad regulatory perspectives covering all of these issues.
