Dynamic Scoring the Presidential Candidates’ Tax Proposals – Washington, DC / Live-Stream

September 16, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:15 pm EDT

As we near the 2016 elections, presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have proposed very different changes to the US federal tax system. House Republicans have also proposed a major tax overhaul. The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center and the Penn Wharton Budget Model have collaborated to analyze how the proposed changes would affect the economy in the short and long run, and their effects on federal tax revenues using estimates based on a new state-of-the-art dynamic economic model. Experts will discuss ways each proposal would affect the economy, explore the sensitivity of estimates to the key assumptions, and make recommendations for future improvements.

Presenters

  • Ben Page, senior fellow, Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center
  • Kent Smetters, Boettner professor, Business Economics and Public Policy Department, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania

Discussants

  • Doug Holtz-Eakin, president, American Action Forum
  • Louise Sheiner, senior fellow in economic studies, Brookings Institution; policy director, Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy, Brookings Institution
