Google Cloud Expands AI Investment in Indonesia

Google Cloud has unveiled a comprehensive suite of artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives aimed at accelerating Indonesia’s digital economy in support of the government’s Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.

The move comes alongside the expansion of Google Cloud’s Jakarta region infrastructure to meet rising demand for enterprise-grade cloud and AI services.

The new initiatives target three core areas: cultivating a domestic AI startup ecosystem, integrating AI across key economic sectors, and building an AI-ready workforce.

At the center of the startup drive is the “Google for Startups Accelerator Southeast Asia: Indonesia, AI-Focused” program, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).

The program seeks to support 100 Indonesian startups over five years that are building products using generative and agentic AI, beginning with an inaugural cohort of 20 in September 2025.

The accelerator will provide access to Google Cloud tools and mentorship without equity requirements.

Google Cloud is also launching “Indonesia BerdAIa,” an enterprise-focused initiative designed to help organizations develop and deploy customized AI solutions aligned with their strategic objectives.

Fifteen organizations, including major players in banking, telecom, retail, education, and healthcare, have already joined the program. Participating companies will receive support to identify high-impact AI use cases, implement secure solutions, and measure tangible business outcomes.

The release highlights early adopters such as Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Paragon Technology and Innovation, Fore Coffee, and Universitas Brawijaya. These organizations are expected to act as benchmarks for scalable AI integration in Indonesia’s priority sectors.

In parallel, Google Cloud reported that over 672,000 training labs have been completed by Indonesian developers on its JuaraGCP platform—a milestone it plans to grow to 800,000 by end-2026.

The company is also introducing a new generative AI certification for non-technical learners, accompanied by free preparatory courses to expand accessibility.

The company emphasized that these efforts reflect a broader commitment to inclusive AI development, with plans to expand training and upskilling programs targeting teachers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

Together, the initiatives aim to unlock an estimated Rp 990 trillion ($61 billion) in economic value by 2030 if widely adopted by startups and SMEs, positioning Indonesia as a potential AI innovation hub in Southeast Asia.
