Edinburgh Napier University announced on Wednesday the launch of a new dedicated course for its Master’s degree in Fintech. The University reported that its Business School already has various courses to offer at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and the addition of the new fintech course is set to expand its business portfolio even further.
“The new MSc Financial Technology is an exciting hybrid drawing its content from both the University’s Business School and the School of Computing, the latter of which has an internationally-recognised reputation for research in cybersecurity. It’s open to anybody with a degree in a relevant subject, such as maths, computing or finance, or people with sufficient professional work experience in the industry.”
The University also revealed that Students will have the opportunity to study subjects such as financial management, data wrangling and transnational financial crime as they equip themselves with the knowledge of banking, cybersecurity and more in order to develop their technical awareness in the financial sector. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the management of online identity issues such as fraud. Speaking about the course, Gail Boag, Dean of Edinburgh Napier’s Business School, stated:
“As the only Scottish University to offer undergraduate degrees in Financial Services developed with input from leading Scottish financial institutions, I am delighted to see our leadership in this area grow with an exciting new course that cuts across traditional academic boundaries. Fintech has evolved to disrupt and reshape commerce and in particular financial services, gaining significant momentum. We are well placed to support this growing digital sector in Scotland combining expertise in finance and computing with practice and application.”
David Potter, Fintech programme leader at Edinburgh Napier, also commented:

Peter Cruickshank, director of Postgraduate Programmes at Edinburgh Napier’s School of Computing, then added:
“This is a great example of how our university is responding to the convergence of finance and technology, and will equip students with the technical and data skills which are becoming essential for a career in finance.”
