Data Economy Focused Ocean Protocol Devs Announce their OceanDAO – Round Two Developer Grant Results

The team at Ocean Protocol (OCEAN), which allows software engineers to build marketplaces and other apps to privately and securely publish, exchange, and consume data, has announced the second round of OceanDAO (distributed autonomous organization or DAO) grant results.

The developers at Ocean Protocol, who are focused on building the new data economy, confirmed that the OceanDAO Round Two has officially concluded (on February 5, 2020).

For people who might not be familiar with OceanDAO, it’s a grants DAO that’s curated by the Ocean community, for “growth and long-term sustainability” (more details here).

Ocean Protocol noted in a blog post that proposal submissions for OceanDAO Round Three are “officially open.”

As mentioned in the update, OceanDAO Rounds are “monthly, with project proposals due on the first of every month.” During Round Two, the top 9 highest-voted grant proposals from the “snapshot ballot” were chosen to receive 10,000 OCEAN (valued at just over $9,100 at time of writing) in order to “foster positive value creation for the overall OCEAN ecosystem.”

The Ocean ecosystem “becomes self-sustainable” as the Web 3.0 (an evolving set of standards for the Internet of the future) data economy builders leverage Ocean Protocol to develop products, services, and resources that the community may find useful or valuable.

The funding category types include:

• Build / improve applications or integrations to Ocean

• Outreach/community (grants don’t need to be technical in nature)

• Unleash data

• Build / improve core Ocean software

• Improvements to OceanDAO

Proposal Vote Results are as follows:

• 16 proposals submitted

• 81 Voters

• 1,195,649.10 $OCEAN voted

Voter Turnout, as confirmed by Ocean Protocol, were:

•Voting opened on Feb 1st at 23:59 GMT

•Voting closed on Feb 4th at 23:59 GMT

Recipients of the grants will be getting an OceanDAO grant in the form of $OCEAN tokens.

Recipients are as follows:

Research the Data Economy

This community project “actively reaches out to leading German think tanks and research institutions that are active in the following research areas: economics, data economy, open science, open data, research data management, web science, science 2.0, AI, and machine learning.”

Videowiki — A collaborative content creation platform

VideoWiki is a platform for “publishing video content that can be automatically generated using AI from text-based content.” They aim to be “a fully decentralized and censorship-resistant video publishing platform.”

VideoWiki is an open, collaborative content editing platform that “enables rapid creation, modification, protection, and monetization of immersive content.”

Maintain Ocean Protocol core component documentation

“As Ocean core components that power the Ocean economy are continually evolving, proposing to maintain the documentation for three months.”

Documentation is “a very crucial part of any cutting-edge tech like Ocean Protocol.” Documentation is “the entry point for all the developers willing to contribute to the new technology.” Well-maintained and up-to-date documentation will “help save developers’ time and bring in more devs and dApps on Ocean Protocol.”

The Data Whale alga. Development Sprint: Phase 2

In Phase 2 of the alga. development, we are “looking to integrate the following functions: mobile data-token swaps, buys, mobile staking, and premium access to users that have consumed access to our datasets before and provide them with a fully customizable analysis tool highlighting important information about the data-economy.”

Ocean Academy: Project Oyster

Ocean Academy is “a comprehensive project encompassing all competencies relevant to the success of Ocean Protocol.” The Academy is “different from tutorials and publications, which are specific to short-term needs or development milestones.” It is “different from reference documentation, which is more complete, often developer-focused, and not delivered in a learning-focused fashion.”

Liquidity Pool Handling 2.0

Dissolve “a liquidity pool and send back fair shares to the people that are in it by assessing the amount of tokens/liquidity pool shares that the participants own and then splitting up the Ocean in the pool accordingly and sending them to them.” This will “cost the dissolver ETH and possibly some of their own tokens.”

Rebalance “a liquidity pool by minting new tokens and sending them to the liquidity pool as well as the token holders.” This will also “cost the invoker ETH to do the transactions. But this could then be used by, e.g., the Swash pool or old pools to fix their token: Ocean ratio.”

German AI/ML goes Ocean

Together we “aim to kick-start the German Ocean-based data economy by introducing Ocean to the leading German AI/ML companies and the German AI Association.”

Data Brokers and Evotegra will “introduce Ocean and the Ocean Market to the German AI Association, representing 250 leading German AI/ML companies. Our goal is to give Ocean visibility to the industry, onboard new publishers, and potentially launch a German Ocean Market for AI/ML publishers and data service consumers.”

RugPullIndex.com

Rugpullindex.com “attempts to rank data sets by measuring their markets’ performance. We crawl all of Ocean Protocol’s markets daily and rank them by their liquidity and shareholder equality (gini coefficient).”

Governor DAO — Data Aggregation

Governor DAO “comes as the community-ran, grassroots reboot following the CBDAO exit scam in October of 2020.” The project is “founded upon the same vision that many CBDAO supporters shared: to create a comprehensive ecosystem to ease the development or transition of a project to a working DAO framework.”

Future Rounds

OceanDAO proposal submission deadlines are “the first of every month.”

Round Three details:

  • Project proposal deadline: March 1, 2021, at 23:59 GMT.
  • Voting wallet balance snapshot: March 1, 2021, at 23:59 GMT.
  • Voting closes: March 4, 2021, at 23:59 GMT.
  • Funding: funds will be “disbursed within 24 hours after voting ends.”

The goal is “to grow the DAO each round. We encourage the $OCEAN ecosystem to apply or reapply AND vote.”

Check out the OceanDAO wiki for “up-to-date round information and any links you will need to get involved as a project team member or a community curator.”
