Wirex First: Receives Money Transmission License From State of Georgia Department of Banking & Finance.

Wirex, a UK-based payments platform, announced on Friday it has received its first money transmission license in the U.S. from the State of Georgia Department of Banking and Finance. According to Wirex, the license will allow them to engage in the business of money transmission serving the population of the state, and marks an important milestone in the payment company’s push to offer its services to the U.S. population.

Founded in 2014, Wirex is a UK FCA-licenced global digital payment platform that has forged new rules in the digital money arena. The company also claims it is the only platform that allows access to OTC and interbank rates for crypto and traditional currency exchanges respectively, ensuring our users always get the best deal.

Wirex further revealed it already serves 3 million customers across 130 countries and it has also developed a series of world’s firsts that they are excited to bring to the U.S.

“As the first company to develop the contactless crypto-compatible debit card, customers can spend their various currency holdings at over 54 million locations where Visa is accepted., empowering everyone to take advantage of the benefits of the blockchain. Wirex is also the world’s first company to offer a cryptocurrency rewards scheme, Cryptoback™, giving up to 1.5% back to customers using their Wirex card in-store.”

Speaking about the license, Pavel Matveev, CEO and Co-Founder of Wirex, stated:

“With the sector growing rapidly, approval of this licence is an important step in Wirex’s endeavour to ensure the company complies with money transmission regulations and cryptocurrency laws worldwide. This is an important step in realising our vision to grow cryptocurrency adoption and use with a mainstream audience in the US.”

Wirex added it plans to launch its services in the U.S. in the coming months.
