Crowdfunding Platform For Women of Black Origin “BuildHer” Launches

BuildHer, a UK-based crowdfunding platform for women of black origin, has officially launched its service. Founded in 2018, BuildHer claims it equips disadvantaged young women in Kenya with accredited construction skills, leading to greater financial prosperity, changing male attitudes, and promoting gender equality within the construction industry.

“The platform provides African Women who are recognized for their contributions to the future. The interactive campaign celebrates extraordinary women from Africa and the diaspora making waves across a wide array of industries, while driving positive impact in their communities and the world at large.”

BuildHer further explained that it believes in a pay-it-forward model, which is why it also aims to reinvest a large percentage of its fees back into Black and Brown women in three ways:

  1. By providing free grants for women who require assistance with legal fees/legal representation but who are unable to afford it.
  2. Helping towards the educational tuition fees of ‘Bright & Talented’ girls worldwide.
  3. Helping women who are homeless or facing the threat of homelessness. BuildHer will also be running frequent cash prize competitions exclusively for its members and ‘BackHers.’

BuildHer’s team then added:

“BuildHer was created to disrupt the funding industry and level the playing field for women of Black Descent, the time is now to recognise and financially support the creations of Black/Brown women who have already created & contributed so much, to everyone, in the modern world.”
