Securities and Exchange Commission Asks Staff to “Telework”

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has posted an “Operating Status” notification on its website indicating that much of its DC staff have been asked to work from home during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Recently, the Commission has canceled multiple meetings, according to its event page. An open meeting of the Commission originally scheduled for today has been postponed. Perhaps due to the spreading illness.

During this period, the Commission states, “the SEC remains fully operational and focused on fulfilling our mission on behalf of America’s investors and our markets.”

Multiple big-name companies have told their employees to stay at home and work remotely. Google has asked all of its North American employees to work from home. Apple has told HQ employees the same. Many smaller firms have already transitioned to virtual operations.

Perhaps one positive outcome of the spread of COVID-19 is to highlight har far digital connectivity has advanced and the ability to work regardless of geography. During the spread of the Coronavirus, many well-established firms have changed little in operation as virtual offices, facilitated by tech like Zoom or Slack, has now become the norm.
