Cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase announced on Wednesday it has appointed Google’s former Vice President of Product, Surojit Chatterjee, as its new Chief Product Officer. Coinbase reported that Surojit will play a “critical role” in making the crypto-economy accessible to millions of more people through its suite of products.
During his time at Google, Chatterjee notably led Google Shopping. Prior to his time at Google, Chatterjee was Head of Product at Indian e-commerce platform FlipKart. Speaking about Chatterjee’s appointment, Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, stated:
“When someone has only lived, worked, or transacted in a country like the United States, it can be difficult to grasp the size of the opportunity in simplifying cross-border transactions. But it’s clear that Surojit’s insights and experiences on the front lines of global commerce make him the perfect person to lead our product organization, help us continue our pace of repeatable innovation, and bring Coinbase products to the next billion crypto users around the world.”
Chatterjee then added:
“Cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology can help open up the financial system for everyone by growing cross-border commerce, lowering transaction costs, providing higher security and by helping individuals have more control over their financial future.”
Founded in 2012, Coinbase describes itself as a digital currency wallet and platform where merchants and consumers may transact with new digital currencies, including bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin.
