The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation, has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the state of access to capital for smaller firms. The “Capital Call” is described as being held similar to a public company’s earnings report where participants may pose questions to the SEC’s representatives.
The Capital Call will feature an overview of what’s happening with capital raising across the country, highlights of feedback the Office has heard from small businesses and their investors during its public outreach events, and the policy recommendations the Office shared with the Commission and Congress in its first annual report.
The Advocate’s office is a newly established entity signed into law during the last days of the Obama administration. The SEC selected the first Advocate in December 2018. The Commission selected Martha Legg Miller to manage the important position. She began her leadership in January of 2019.
The Capital Call will be a virtual conference call event held on Jan. 23, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET.
