Monzo Co-Founder & Deput Chief Executive Paul Rippon Steps Down For Alpaca Business

Paul Rippon, Monzo’s Co-Founder and Deputy Chief Executive, announced this week he has stepped down from his position with the UK fintech to pursue an alpaca business, Barnacre Alpacas. In a letter published on Linkedin, Rippon revealed the exciting news and what’s next for him.

“It’s been my privilege to co-found Monzo back in February 2015 and serve as Deputy Chief Executive. It’s now time for others to enjoy the next stage of the journey to help money work for everyone. We’ve grown from nothing to be the number one bank for customer service with 3.5 million customers, 1500 staff, the UKs most recommended brand and a valuation of £2 billion, which would put us in the top 200 companies on the FTSE all-share! It’s been an exciting and demanding journey. Along the way I led our fast and successful banking licence application, hired many exceptional people, led several areas of the company and have lately been a “wise” (according to my leaving card!) coach. Oh yes and I made lots of mistakes! Not bad for someone from humble origins and a ’northerner’ eh?”

Rippon went on to add:

“For the next few weeks and months I’m going to enjoy some time with Debbie at our wonderful farm in Northumberland. You’ll find me doing the feed rounds, hosting alpaca walk ’n’ talks and driving my tractor (a Massey Ferguson 390T if you like that sort of thing – otherwise it’s big and red!). Sometime after April 2020 I plan to spend a day a week doing non-executive, consulting or coaching; the rest of the time will be reserved for Debbie, our alpaca farm and enjoying life.”
