Intelligent headphone creator Kokoon has successfully secured its initial £1 million equity crowdfunding target on Seedrs. The funding round was launched earlier this spring and has attracted more than 400 investors. Kokoon describes itself as a digital platform helping people better use audio to help them relax and switch off. The company’s app provides personalized, intelligent audio content and coaching developed with sleep scientists based on clinically validated techniques
As previously reported, Kokoon is on a mission to bring the world better sleeping habits with its relaxation headphones. The company has created what it believes is the world’s first headphone and mobile app designed to aid sleep and relaxation. EEG sensors, an established approach to sleep measurement, will measure brain activity to understand how users respond to its audio and automatically adjust in response. It raised $1,936,825 on Kickstarter for the headphones in 2015. The company then raised £1.6 million through equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube.
“We recently launched our first product, Kokoon Relax, a set of ergonomic headphones that work with our app to encourage and protect relaxation and sleep. The ideal solution for frequent travellers, struggling sleepers, and those in noisy environments. We’ve sold nearly £4.5m in pre-orders and have built a multi-million pipeline of orders from retailers.”
Funds from the new Seedrs round will be used for the following:
- Sales Growth: Kokoon is expanding its team to promote and support the global rollout of our product across retail, Amazon, and B2B
- Platform capabilities: Kokoon will be increasing the pace of delivery of our pipeline of new capabilities and content
- Product pipeline: Kokoon will be accelerating the launch of the in-ear headphone broadening appeal to reach new customers. It’ll also be investing in the continued development of our over-ear headphone; improving performance, UX and margins
The funding round is set to close later this month.
