Earlier this month, the French Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) and the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de resolution (ACPR) added many more names of websites that are allegedly offering cryptocurrency trading and access to crypto-based derivatives. The AMF said these sites lack the necessary authorization to provide these financial services. The AMF hosts a “liste noire” with all of the names of bogus crypto sites.
Some of the sites are no longer operational with others appearing to be active platforms. The list highlights the cat and mouse challenge of illicit crypto service providers that can easily launch a site in minutes and make outlandish claims crafted to lure the unsuspecting. The prevalence of crypto trading sites heightens the need for regulation and enforcement actions against scam operations.
The AMF notes that “these websites may change very quickly and this list is not intended to be exhaustive.”
At least one site displayed a “Best Customer Service – People’s Choice Award.”
