Gamer Platform Razer Launches E-Wallet Service in Malaysia

Gamer platform Razer announced earlier this week it is launching its Razer Pay e-wallet in Malaysia, with making its global debut in Kuala Lumpur. The launch is reportedly made possible through Razer’s partnership with the Berjaya Corporation Berhad. Founded in 2005, Razer claims to be the world’s leading lifestyle brand for gamers. The company has designed and built a gamer-focused ecosystem for hardware, software, and services with ore than 35 million users.

Razer’s award-winning products include hardware such as high-performance gaming peripherals (for the PC and console platforms), the Razer Blade line of gaming laptops; software such as Razer Cortex (a game optimizer and launcher); and services such as Razer zGold (a virtual credit service and payment engine for gamers). The company additionally provides audio-visual certification through its subsidiary THX Ltd.”

Razer revealed that Razer Pay is the e-wallet designed for youth and millennials. Users can top up easily, transfer money quickly, and pay everywhere. To add funds to a Razer Pay account, users can visit any 7-Eleven store in Malaysia at any time to buy a Razer Pay top-up PIN. Alternatively, users can also use their online banking account to add funds. Participating banks include AmBank, Bank Islam, CIMB, Hong Leong Bank, Maybank, Public Bank and RHB Bank.

The gamer platform also reported that with Razer Pay, users can transfer funds to family and friends easily (i.e. peer-to-peer cash transfers) in just a few steps. Users can also transfer money quickly from their Razer Pay e-wallet to their bank account. Razer Pay can be used for online transactions. For example, users who love games and video entertainment can purchase PIN codes instantly for popular services such as zGold MOLPoints, Steam Wallet, Garena, Sony PlayStation, Spotify, iflix, Astro NJOI and more. Razer added:

Over 6,000 major retail and F&B outlets will accept Razer Pay, with participating brands such as 7-Eleven, Starbucks, Singer, Cosway, Greyhound Café, Wendy’s, Kenny Rogers, Krispy Kreme, 99 Speedmart, Tealive, Thundermatch, Sweet Hut and more. Razer Pay will grow its merchant network rapidly to encompass F&B, healthcare, travel and other lifestyle services in Malaysia.”

Razer Pay will roll out in other Southeast Asian countries in the coming months.
