GoFundMe Debuts Team Fundraising Feature

On Wednesday, global crowdfunding platform GoFundMe announced its GoFundMe Team Fundraising, which is described as a new product providing groups of any size with the ability to collaborate and fundraise together for a personal or charitable cause. According to GoFundme, this new product brings the funding platform to new markets that have relied exclusively on traditional offline fundraising methods and provides new tools to harness the power of social fundraising.

While sharing details about GoFundMe Team Fundraising, Rob Solomon, CEO of GoFundMe, stated:

“Before, when a sports team, school club, professional organization or other group was looking to raise money together, the options were limited and could take a lot of time and resources in order to execute successfully. With GoFundMe Team Fundraising, we’re introducing an easy social fundraising solution to maximise reach and success for groups. These new tools will also give our existing community another way to fundraise. Our goal is to make fundraising faster, easier and more efficient for anyone looking to raise money, whether an individual, nonprofit or team.”

GoFundMe also explained that prior to launching GoFundMe Team Fundraising it gave select consumers the opportunity to try out the new product. The portal reported:

“Already, team campaigns have been set up by existing groups of all sizes, including sports teams and school groups traveling to national competitions; colleagues rallying around a cause they’re passionate about; and local communities starting a movement, to name a few. In addition to reaching new markets, individuals and existing campaign organisers can start or convert to a Team GoFundMe, invite people to join their cause and access the new team fundraising tools. People within the GoFundMe community have created new teams with families and friends, rallying together to help loved ones across medical, memorial and emergency categories.”

GoFundMe Team Fundraising features include the following:

  • Invite teams of all sizes: Campaign Organisers can invite existing team members (sports teams, clubs, organizations, etc.) or create a new team (family, friends, colleagues, etc.) to collaborate on fundraising efforts, no matter the size—whether 5, 50, or 500.
  • Manage team: Organizers have access to a dashboard where they can create a team name, streamline communication and monitor donations.
  • Motivate with live leaderboard: Incentivise the fundraising effort by turning on the live leader board. Encourage friendly competition by showing amount raised by each team member, and challenge team members to see who can raise the most.
  • Share responsibility: Each team member will have their name and photo on the campaign and may post updates and thank donors directly through the campaign page. Members will also have a unique URL to activate each of their networks to receive recognition for the donations they bring in.

GoFundMe then added:

“GoFundMe is proud to be the leader in trust, support and innovation in fundraising. With this latest product, GoFundMe is continuing to offer the best for its users and bring learnings and tools to new markets while providing the best experience, support and product for all customers.”
