Overfunding: British Fruit Chips Brand Spare Fruit Surpasses £300,000 Funding Target on Seedrs

Spare Fruit, a UK-based fruit chip brand, has successfully secured its initial 300,000 funding target on equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs.Founded in 2016, Spare Fruit states it rescues fresh fruit and transforms it into deliciously healthy fruit crisps.

Our vision is to become the Europe’s leading sustainable snack brand available in supermarkets and independent retail outlets. Our aim is rescue thousands of tonnes of fresh fruit that would otherwise be wasted, and raise awareness of food waste amongst millions of consumers and thousands of businesses.”

Spare Fruit noted it gently slices whole fruits and slowly air-dry (never fry) them into crunchy slices of natural fruity goodness, without wasting a pip. The fruit crisps are high fiber, low calorie with nothing added. To date, the company has saved more than 15 tons of apples and pears to create its air-dried fruit crisps. It is currently listed with Selfridges, Planet Organic, Revital, Farm Drop and a host of independent cafes, health stores, deli’s, farm shops and garden centers.

The company noted that all of its profits go back into ensuring we can transform more surplus produce into more delicious products and to raise more awareness of food waste in the process.

All funds from the Seedrs round will be used to continue Spare Fruit’s expansion. It is set to close later this winter.
