Kickstarter Celebrates Five Years of Crowdfunding in the UK

Cheers, UK creators! On Tuesday, crowdfunding giant Kickstarter announced it was celebrating its five year anniversary in the British countryside.

Five years ago today a Kickstarter team was supposed to be over in the UK celebrating our first international expansion. Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy trapped them in a soggy New York. But the Kickstarter community in the UK quickly flourished regardless: In the last five years, 27,500 UK projects have launched, and they’ve attracted £168 million in pledges.”

As part of the celebration, the Kickstarter team shared their favorite UK-based projects that launched on the funding portal throughout the five years. This included Emilie Holmes’s project for her Good & Proper Tea Truck, which launched on Kickstarter’s first day in the UK in 2012; Aardman Animation’s animated character Morph was presented to Kickstarter backers in 2013; the Kickstarter Film Festival and a batch of workshops made their way to London in 2014; Emily Brooke’s Blaze bike lights launched in 2015; The Citizens Advertising Takeover Service replaced all the ads in a tube station with pictures of cats in 2016; and Granby Workshop of Liverpool launched Splatware earlier this year. The Kickstarter crew then added:

Thanks to all of our UK creators and to everyone who has supported UK projects. If they inspire a project of your own, no matter where you live… get to it!”
