Like to Be, an online networking platform connecting students with professionals for impartial, real world, careers advice, has captured its initial £150,000 funding target through its equity crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs.
As previously reported, Like to Be was founded in 2016 by polar explorer, Antony Jinman, who has visited hundreds of schools for polar science workshops throughout the UK. The platform stated:
“We believe that the biggest barrier to young people’s aspirations, is the lack of knowledge and understanding of what career opportunities there are. Pupils, largely depend on parents or teachers for career inspiration, who may themselves lack business or industry experience. LiketoBe is a digital solution, that enables teachers and parents to quickly and efficiently, build networks of professional people and employers, helping young people find their aspirations and answer the question, ‘When I leave school, I’d like to be ..’ For this work, Antony has been awarded an Honorary Degree Doctor of Education from University of the West of England.”
While sharing details about Jinman’s polar science mission, Like to Be explained:
“Much like Tim Peake (the British Astronaut), via technology; our founder, polar explorer Antony Jinman has engaged live and direct with classrooms while on various expeditions. Instant reaction and subsequent feedback, from teachers and pupils alike, demonstrated that technology represents a wide reaching, penetrative gateway to informing and inspiring young minds. We realized that this could be relevant to any career and throughout a child’s education, starting with primary schoolchildren, by simply asking ‘what would you like to be?’”
The initiative was launched earlier this summer, seeking the funds as the platform preps for expansion.
