UK Footwear Brand Solillas Hits Crowdcube: Seeks £350,000 For Growth & Expansion

Solillas, a UK-based footwear company that is known for its traditional bohemian sandals, has launched an equity crowdfunding on Crowdcube. The company is currently seeking £350,000 as it prepares to grow and expand its brand.

Founded in 2009, Solilas states its bohemian shoe is an update on a traditional Spanish leather sandal, which is craft in the Balearic Island. Each pair, which is designed in the company’s London studio, is created with premium leathers in second generation family factories in Spain.

We launched in Urban Outfitters in the UK in 2012 and in 5 years have become a recognised mainstream summer brand across the UK high street. We are now sold nationwide in OFFICE stores, as well as Schuh, Topshop, Selfridges, Liberty, and House of Fraser, along with quality independent boutiques. We are also stocked in online giants Amazon Fashion and Zalando.”

Silillas notes it has become widely popular, and in 2015 it won Best New Business at the Drapers Footwear Awards. It is now stocked in 25 countries, in more than 100 retailers through 500 outlets. It is also stocked in the U.S. stores such as Free People, Urban Outfitters, and Abercrombie and Fitch. The company also reported that last year its gross sales topped £873k (exc. VAT) and since 2014, it estimated that it sold over 150,000 pairs worldwide.

Funds from the campaign will be used for the following:

  • Internationalize Silillas’ e-commerce setup and stock holding
  • Open a permanent store in the UK
  • International digital marketing strategy to build Silillas’ loyal following in UK, U.S., and EU

Since its launch, the campaign has raised nearly £90,000 from close to 50 investors. It is set to close mid-August.
