Crowdcube Spain Investors Pour Funds into Artisanal Brewer Monkey Beer

Monkey Beer’s glass is more than half full, its nearly 80% full. Founded in Toledo in 2014,  artisanal brewer Monkey Beer was recognized by WBCHALLENGER in 2016 as one of the best breweries in the world.  The craft beer brand has sold more than 200,000 pints in 2016 and expects to start exporting to Asia by the year’s end.

According to a study by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and  Brewers of Spain and Spanish Federation of Hospitality, the beer market is valued of the market is 15.5 billion Euros, which represents 1.4 of GDP, and contributing nearly 7 billion Euros in value added to the economy. Spain places second to Germany in the EU’s  brewing sector for generating employment,  producing the fourth highest amount of beer in the EU.

Co-founder brothers Raul Prieto Cordero and Roberto Prieto Cordero partnered with Crowdcube Spain to raise 170K€ for 13.39% equity.  To date, Monkey Beer has raised over 130,070 € toward its goal from over 50 investors, sips away from their goal. One investor is not monkeying around, at 100,045€ adding a substantial chunk of funding to the crowdfunding round.

The artisanal beer sector is a sector that is booming in Spain; Monkey Beer sees little competition (except maybe from successful Crowdfund Spain alum Garage Beer) and sees its most significant challenge in the development of an adequate and adaptive distribution.

“We differentiate ourselves by our own personality when preparing our products. Artisan beer is like cooking, each producer contributes his good work. Not only do we manufacture high quality beers, but we maintain that quality thanks to our equipments built by ourselves that lead to a thorough knowledge of our elaboration process, controlling the manufacturing process from start to finish,” commented the Cordero brother on their campaign. “We know that there is a great demand for this sector with growth in this last year of 1500% according to the socioeconomic report of the beer sector in the 2015 Spain of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. Within the social change generated in recent years, with great demand for the non-industrial product in different sectors, the artisan beer was the only one in which there were no producers.”

After designing, building and assembling the brewery company Valle del Kash , Monkey Beer now sells its product to restaurants, hotels, online and in specialized stores with dstribution center in Madrid, Toledo and Barcelona. The brewer is currently negotiating with a national chain in Asia to begin exporting and selling at their outlets.

An rewards component also exists in the campaign. As an example, with a 100€, commitment  investors will receive a batch of 6 beers from Monkey Beer’s special anniversary production, a Brutal Monkey t-shirt and and annual invitation to its Anniversary Party. Invest 500€ and add a tour and a discount. Invest 1,000€ and add “working days”, when investors participate in the brewing  process and receive a 24 pack. Finally, invest 5,000€ add the prior swag and enjoy tour perks for ten friends.
