Earlier this week, Kickstarter’s design and tech team announced the launch of their new Request for Projects Feature. According to the team’s lead, Julio Terra, this feature was inspired in part by Y Combinator’s request for startups.
“As part of our endless quest for projects, we’ve decided to try something new. Inspired in part by Y Combinator’s requests for startups, we’re going public with a list of the things we’d love to see more of on Kickstarter. We hope this inspires creators who are working in these areas to get in touch. If your project fits the bill, we can help make it shine and spotlight it for our community of 13 million backers.”
The three main areas that the Kickstarter team are focusing on this year for the feature are Tools for Creating (examples Pico, Nomiku, and Lomography); Boundary Pushers (LightSail, OpenROV, and OpenPCR); and Delightful Design (Kano, Lumos, and Lumio). Terra added:
“We chose these areas in part by thinking about the goals and values set out in our company charter. Kickstarter is a public benefit corporation, which means our benchmarks for success are not just financial ones. When deciding which projects to support, we ask ourselves: Does this project make the world more creative, interesting, beautiful, or equitable?”
