OurCrowd Funded Company had their Technology Used During Super Bowl 51

Remember that super-cool technology used during Super Bowl 51 where you could view a 360º panoramic view of the play? It was prominently shared that it was powered by Intel but what many people do not know is that Replay Technologies, the creator of the technology was previously a portfolio company of investment crowdfunding platform OurCrowd. At the time, this was exit #5 for OurCrowd and indicative of the potential of equity crowdfunding.

Replay Technologies raised capital on OurCrowd in late 2015. The equity crowdfunding round closed fully funded at over $2.2 million. While the specific terms of the acquisition were not revealed, the chatter put the purchase price at around $175 million. OurCrowd founder and CEO Jon Medved stated at that time;

“We are delighted with today’s news about the Intel acquisition of Replay Technology.  This is good news for Replay and its investors and for Intel.”

Now called Intel 360 Replay Technology, the technology includes a battalion of HD cameras positioned around the sporting venue capturing and creating a 3D rendering of any moment on the field. Intel says that it uses about 1 terabyte of data per 15 to 30 second clip – along with some pretty awesome computing power. The technology was also used in one of the more entertaining Super Bowl commercials that showed Tom Brady starting his day.
