European Parliament State of Play Report on Crowdfunding

The European Parliament has published a report entitled: Crowdfunding in Europe – Introduction and State of Play. The short document is basically a synopsis on the status of crowdfunding in Europe.

The report notes that while crowdfunding has grown rapidly, much of this growth has occurred in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.  Each of these countries has enacted bespoke regulatory regimes to encourage this growth while simultaneously highlighting the missing coordination amongst EU countries. Pointing to a Commission statement that “there is no strong case for EU-level policy intervention”, the Commission will continue to monitor crowdfunding evolution.

The high-level document provides little in the form offorwarding-lookingg developments nor suggestions. It is chock-full of links and references to many papers and documents regarding crowdfunding – many have been published on this site. The author does note the “Commission will maintain regular dialogue, through twice yearly meetings, with the European Supervisory Authorities, Member States, and the crowdfunding sector to promote convergence, sharing of best practice and keep developments under review.”
