With nearly one week until its crowdfunding campaign on Fig is set to close, Lion Shield’s latest project, Kingdoms and Castles, has secured 430% of its funding target. The video game studio originally looked to raise $15,000 for the project and has so far captured more than $73,000 from close to 1,100 backers.
As previously reported, Kingdoms and Castles, which was notably inspired by the SimCity series, Banished, and Stronghold, is described as a game about growing a kingdom from a tiny hamlet to a sprawling city. The players’ kingdoms must survive a “living and dangerous world,” which may include Viking raiders, dragon attacks, and beast discoveries. There’s no telling what each kingdom will experience will trying to grow.
To build a city, Kingdoms and Castles players must layout and expand their town strategically to improve peasant happiness and attract more residents. Each kingdom must tax the residents as a way to fund their castle, make sure all are fed in the winter and survive plagues, and also throw special events or build areas that will make residents happy. Along with keep residents alive and happy, each kingdom must be able to defend themselves. This means to build walls and towers to keep out dangers.
Funds from campaign will go towards development, publishing, and release, along with sound effects, music, and software licenses. The studio also noted that the campaign was also created to attract more players for the alpha and beta testing. In a recent update, the studio announced it is going to keep a developer log and publish it roughly each month to share with backers. This month’s edition will include the development of defense and combat systems; city building systems; and weather. To see the full log, click here.
