“Bears vs Babies” Finishes Kickstarter Run & Takes Third Spot in Most Backed Games on the Crowdfunding Platform

Elan Lee and Matthew Inman, the creators Exploding Kittens, closed the Kickstarter campaign for the highly anticipated card game, Bears vs Babies, on Thursday evening. The project secured a total of $3,215,679 from 85,581 backers during its highly successful crowdfunding run.

bears-vs-babies-1Playing the game is strategic and with one goal, to create monsters that destroy babies. Players sit in a circle and draw cards. Each player picks two types of cards (bears and babies). Bears are to built and will include heads, torsos, arms, and legs. Babies are played immediately into the center of the table. They will form a baby army, which must be stopped by all players in the game. Players will go to war by provoking babies. If the monster is stronger than the babies, they will win that battle and eat those babies. If babies are strong than creatures, they will win and your army will be devoured.

Just hours before the initiative’s closing, the Bears vs Babies team revealed that the project was only 5,000 backers away from being the #2 most backed game on Kickstarter ever (Inman and Lee’s Exploding Kittens remaining first with 219,382 backers). Although it didn’t beat out the second placeholder, Double Fine Adventure, it did take over the third place spot. Lee recently shared why he and Inman decided to go with Kickstarter for their projects:

“We’re on Kickstarter because building a game with a community is the best way in the world to make a great game. We need our community to help us test out the final card distribution, tweak some of the rules, and tell us the best way to communicate the mechanics.”

Bears vs Babies’ estimated delivery is currently set for June 2017.
