Overfunding: Child Safety App Azoomee Surpasses £450,000 Funding Goal on Crowdcube

With less than two weeks until its equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube comes to an end, child safety app Azoomee has successfully secured its initial £450,000 funding goal and is nearing £525,000 thanks to over 175 investors.

Azoomee 1As previously reported, Azoomee allows children between the ages of 5 and 8 years old to watch, play, listen and get creative in one secure place. The app, which was launched earlier this year, is pre-loaded onto O2’s Family Tablet and works on any iOS of Android device for the price of £4.99 per month, per family.

Azoomee creators, Estelle and Douglas Lloyd are parents of three girls aged 3 to 10 and founded Azoomee to make children’s Internet use safer. They stated that Azoomee was created as a way to keep children safe online after their middle daughter Chloe came across inappropriate content while searching for a video of one of her favorite nursery rhymes.

“The critical nature of Azoomee’s mission – keeping children safe online and teaching them, from an early age, how to be smart and safe when using the Internet – has enabled the company to attract employees from blue chip companies including HSBC, British Telecom, News International, Deezer and Hopster.”

Since its debut, Azoomee has achieved the following:

  • Partnered with NSPCC to provide marketing support and online safety advice.
  • O2 Kids’ Tablet launched nationally at 473 stores and included a two-year subscription to Azoomee.
  • Was dubbed winner of an EU Horizon2020 grant (equally out to 50,000) for its social impact on children in Europe.
  • Received £2.3 million from individuals and one financial institution since December 2014.

Azoomee 3Earlier this week, the Azoomee team revealed they have been accepted into the Mayor’s International Business Programme, a program sponsored by London’s mayor and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

This new programme focuses on helping high-growth, London-based companies scale internationally by providing mentoring, expert advice and real business opportunities – this support will be invaluable.”

Funds from the Crowdcube initiative will go towards the license of more content on the app (video, games, audiobooks), the more app development, and continue to grow subscribe base. The campaign is set to close at the beginning of October.
