Following the devastating flood that’s left the state of Louisiana in ruins, the Louisiana Scool Board of Association launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $500,000 for the victims. The association reported that it represented the 69 local public school districts in the state and are dedicated to bring the schools most affected by the flooding back up and running. All funds will go towards to the school districts based upon the proportion of the students whose schools were damaged.
Since its launch, the campaign has successfully secured over $11,000 from 130 supports. Among those who contributed were the team from the crowdfunding platform itself. The message reads:
“From all of us here at GoFundMe, we send our best wishes for rebuilding and recovery after these terrible floods. Sincerely, The GoFundMe Team.”
Last week, GoFundMe announced more than 2,000 campaigns on its crowdfunding platform raised over $1.2 million to support Louisiana cities following a historical flood. The funding portal’s community has previously helped those during various disasters, including the contribution of $2.5 million for victims of the 2015 California wildfires and over $1.1 million for survivors of the storms in the Carolinas this past year. Recently, Brad Paisley launched an initiative on the funding portal for the victims of the West Virginia floods, which happened earlier this summer. Paisley’s campaign was among the 175 campaigns that were raising funds for those affected.
“The GoFundMe community has a history of coming together in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Donations continue to pour in for those impacted by the fires in Canada, raising over $1 million. Over $1 million dollars was raised for the victims and their families of the earthquakes in Ecuadorin April, and $7 million was raised on GoFundMe in the aftermath of theNepal earthquakes.”
