On Tuesday, GoFundMe announced more than 2,000 campaigns on its crowdfunding platform raised over $1.2 million to support Louisiana cities following a historical flood.
The GoFundMe community has previously sprung into action to help those during various disasters. Campaign organizers raised $2.5 million for victims of the 2015 California wildfires and over $1.1 million for survivors of the storms in the Carolinas this past year. Recently, Brad Paisley launched an initiative on the funding portal for the victims of the West Virginia floods, which happened earlier this summer. Paisley’s campaign was among the 175 campaigns that were raising funds for those affected.
GoFundMe shared:
“The GoFundMe community has a history of coming together in the aftermath of a natural disaster. Donations continue to pour in for those impacted by the fires in Canada, raising over $1 million. Over $1 million dollars was raised for the victims and their families of the earthquakes in Ecuadorin April, and $7 million was raised on GoFundMe in the aftermath of theNepal earthquakes.”
The Weather Channel reports at least 40,000 homes have been affected by the flood and 30,000 people have been rescued. It was also revealed that 11 people have so far died in the situation.
