Seeking to help prevent more assault crimes from happening, California-based Nimb has launched a Kickstarter to raise funds for its self-titled panic button ring.
According to its description, Nimb is a ring with a concealed button that notifies family, friends, emergency services and the Nimb community when a user is in trouble. It notably sends an emergency alert to preset contacts from the mobile app with just the touch of a thumb.
“Emergencies can be scary, but Nimb provides vibration feedback to let you know that a message has gone out and help is on the way. Whether you’re caught in a natural disaster, experiencing a health issue or in a personal attack situation, Nimb is there to keep you safe and sound when you need it most.”
Here’s how it works:
When in trouble, users simply press and hold the button on Nimb for three seconds.- Nimb sends an alert message to the user’s “safety circles” that reveals where they are located.
- The user’s rescue team is warned and responds to the signal.
It was noted that Nimb will track the user’s location in real-time and the rescue team will always know exactly where the user is. The mobile app helps users set up their safety circles, but it also set up to only contact the police, just the user’s best friend, their entire family or people nearby.
The company also discussed its online community:
“We believe that society is ready to provide its members with peer-to-peer help even in extreme situations. Communities have a role to play in bringing better practices to different areas of life. Personal security shouldn’t be an exception. You can join communities to help and empower people with similar values and views. If you belong to an organization, a movement or a team, now you are able to support your fellow associates, should they happen to be in urgent need.”
Sharing why she decided to create the device, co-founder of Nimb, Ekaterina Romanovskaya (Katya Kermlin), revealed details about her experience with assault violence.
Those who are looking to purchase the Nimb will receive it through the Kickstarter for the price of $149. The company has the estimated delivery for March 2017.
Originally seeking $50,000, Nimb’s crowdfunding campaign has already surpassed its initial funding goal and is currently sitting at over $95,000 thanks to nearly 950 backers. It is set to close on July 29th.
