UK-based shoe brand and Crowdcube alum, Vivobarefoot, has successfully captured its initial $100,000 Kickstarter funding goal for the production of original bushman SAN-dals in Namibia

Vivobarefoot 2As previously reported, the company launched the new crowdfunding campaign last month bring its shoe, SAN-dal, to the U.S. To date, Vivobarefoot has reportedly sold over 1 million pairs of shoes and has been profitable for the last 2 years and growing at 30% a year. It was launched as a stand-alone brand in 2012 by seventh generation shoemakers, Galahad and Asher Clark, on the premise of making shoes that allow feet to do their natural thing.

Vivobarefoot has reportedly teamed up with Ju/’Hoansi community in Namibia to create handmade bushman SAN-dals. Made with ethically-sourced eland skin, one of the thickest and most durable leathers in Africa, the SAN-dals are notably extremely durable and are originally designed to protect from the burning hot sand and sharp thorns. The edges are hand-sewn and sealed with natural beeswax and the embossed animal footprint on the sole gives the shoe extra grip, abrasion resistance, and unique personality to each pair.

Galahad Clark stated:

Vivobarefoot 3“We are humbled by the support not only for our company, but for our mission and the craft we are looking to help revive in Namibia. By surpassing our goal, we are now able to give back to the community that has taught us about ancient shoe-making and the importance of shoe design. We are thankful to all those who contributed and enabled us to support one of the oldest communities on Earth, as we continue to create revolutionary footwear for our customers.”

The company will begin to ship the SAN-dals later this month. All proceeds from the campaign will be reinvested back into the Namibian community to maintain the village, purchase staple foods and create a famine fund for drought years.
