Code 8 2

Just two days after Arrow stars Robbie and Stephen Amell launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for their new film, Code 8, the project has successfully secured its initial $200,000 and is now over $260,000 thanks to nearly 3,000 backers.

Code 8 3As previously reported, the cousins took to the funding platform for the movie. Its description reads:

“The film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized. The story follows a young man with special powers (Robbie Amell) struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer (Sung Kang) and the autonomous robots backing him up.”

Code 8 will be shot in Los Angeles and will also star Aaron Abrams (Hannibal, Blindspot, Chad Donella (Scandal), and Alfred Rubin Thompson (Club Dead). Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, Stephen will not be in the film, but will act as an executive producer.

Sharing their thoughts about the project’s already success, Robbie, Stephen and the rest of the Code 8 revealed:

Code 8“The love, support and kind words that have been pouring in over the last 2 days have been incredible. We seriously can’t thank you enough. We’re so happy you enjoyed the short and SO EXCITED to turn Code 8 into a feature film! This is happening! Because of you!

“People have been asking if they can still contribute now that we’ve hit our goal, and the answer is YES. This is just the start. The film is now happening, but we want to make this the best movie we can possibly make. We will be adding stretch goals. We will be adding more perks. We’re adding a premiere! There will be lots more events, videos, and extra content that will be shared through the campaign page.”

The team also revealed the $200,000 stretch goal, which revealed that Robbie and Stephen will be holding a live steam Q&A tomorrow (March 26th) at 2 P.M. EST. They also added a New York City premiere perk. Other perks include signed posters, apparel, tickets to various premieres (Toronto, Los Angeles, and Vancouver), and backers can even pay to be an extra in the film.
