Showing support to those affected by the Flint Water Crisis, rock band Pearl Jam has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Crowdrise to help get clean water to the Michigan city.
Flint’s water system has been containment and research showed that lead poisoning was found and as a result, between 6,000 and 12,000 residents reportedly has severely high levels of lead in the blood and experienced a range of serious health problem. The state of Michigan declared a state of emergency for the city earlier this month.
The campaign’s description reads:
“Pearl Jam and a close group of friends and partners have pledged $300,000 and counting to support relief efforts for the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. They encourage all fans and supporters to join in their efforts.
“Donations will be made to The United Way of Genesee County’s Flint Water Fund which serves both the immediate and longterm needs of the community. Monetary donations will first be used for the purchase of water filters, bottled water, emergency support services and prevention efforts in Flint, Michigan. After the short-term need of Flint residents has been met, any remaining funds will be directed to the Flint Child Health and Development Fund. This fund will provide aid to children and families with interventions that support positive health outcomes. 100% of donated funds are used for Flint community projects and no administrative fee is assessed.”
According to Classic Rock, the band donated $125,000 of their own money to the United Way of Genesee county’s Flint Water Fund. Live Nation, the group’s record label Republic Records, Universal Music Publishing Group, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, Glaser Progress Foundation, Brandi Carlile’s Looking Out Foundation and Ticketmaster threw in an additional $175,000 to the pot, bringing the total donation to $300,000.
