Sprint Declares: “We Are Working with Nextbit to certify its Robin Smartphone On Our Network”

Just one week after Nextbit announced that Verizon will be offering its current Kickstarter project, Robin, one of the phone carrier’s competitors Sprint announced that it is working to make sure that the highly anticipated smartphone will work on its network.

Robin 5Robin intelligently adapts to the user’s storage needs, and automatically optimizes the space on their phone when it sees they need it. By learning the apps they use and the space they need, Robin offloads the stuff they don’t use to the cloud. Perfect for those that are not interested in useless apps that are already updated on new smartphones.

Nextbit originally was going to offer Robin to only AT&T and T-Mobile users, but then announced last Wednesday that it spoken to Verizon about the smartphone as well:

“We received tons of fan mail asking us to make a Verizon compatible version of Robin. We’ve been working our tails (get it? tails?) off to bring you a version of Robin that can properly support the Verizon network and we’re happy to tell you we’ve done it!

“The Verizon compatible version is available to current backers and after the flash sale, just choose any reward level. We will let you pick whether you want the original or Verizon model in your backer survey after the campaign is over. (The exception is that tomorrow’s flash sale is only for the Verizon model.)”

Robin 1Nextbit has since been in contact with Sprint. According to CNet, the company’s CEO Tom Moss shared it was unclear whether the company would be able to make the device compatible with Sprint. But the carrier, based in Overland Park, Kansas, stepped up to offer its assistance. A spokesman from Sprint declared:

“Sprint is working with Nextbit to certify its Robin smartphone for use on the Sprint network.”

He declined to comment on whether the carrier would sell the device.

Robin’s Kickstarter has collected over $1.2 million and has seven more days until it closes. Backers of the campaign will receive their devices in spring 2016.
