SonyGiving employees a chance to share their ideas, tech giant Sony announced its very own crowdfunding platform, First Flight, that’s dedicated to plans inside its company.

According to Wall Street Journal, although Sony has resolved its financial issues and expects to make a huge comeback profitably in the current fiscal year, critics, including some former employees, stated that the company’s frequent cutbacks are hurting the moral among its employees.

In response to this, chief executive, Kazuo Hirai announced programs that are to encourage new ideas, including a quarterly contest. He shared that the programs may develop into major businesses for Sony.

Kazuo Hirai 2The media outlet revealed that the First Flight platform will not explicitly promote its relationship with Sony. By doing this, it will help employees to get an accurate estimate of the potential of their ideas. Those involved with the platform stated teams that maje it through the quarterly contests will be eligible to use the website, or if they prefer, a non-Sony crowdfunding platform, like Kickstarter or Indiegogo.

First Flight will also function as an online retail store for projects that are successful. Once it opens products by Sony teams, that were successfully funded earlier through other platforms, will be on sale to residents of Japan.
