IgnitionDeck Acquires GIG; Set to Enable Crowdfunding Features For Indie Musicians

IgnitionDeck, Inc., a provider of WordPress-based e-commerce solutions, has acquired the popular GIG theme for musicians and bands. GIG joins Fundify, CrowdPress, and the IgnitionDeck products in the company’s line of popular offerings for fee-free crowdfunding on WordPress.

IgnitionDeckGIG empowers bands and musicians to create elegant, mobile-responsive websites where they can list upcoming performances, publish recordings and videos, run their blogs, and crowdfund creative efforts without paying the typical 4% to 9% commissions levied by crowdfunding hosts. GIG is an indie tool for independent musicians who want a beautiful web presence that they own and control, who would rather keep all the money that they raise, and don’t want a middleman between them and their fans and supporters.

Jonathan Atkinson, designer of GIG and founder of the WordPress design studio Cr3ativ stated:

Jonathan-Atkinson

“GIG was one of the first themes to support IgnitionDeck, and music artists love how it empowers them to run crowdfunding campaigns on their own terms. I’m excited to see the continued growth of the GIG theme under the IgnitionDeck team’s guidance. We have worked closely with them for a few years, so I know that GIG is in great hands.”

Since the launch in 2011 of the original IgnitionDeck plug-in tool for crowdfunding, IgnitionDeck has been the leader in fee-free crowdfunding on WordPress. The videogame Star Citizen raised $8 million using IgnitionDeck, and the tool has successfully funded countless other projects and causes, including feature films, music albums, software development, arts and literature publications, and even a prosthetic left leg. Last year, IgnitionDeck acquired the popular Fundify and CrowdPress tools, which enable WordPress users to “be their own Kickstarter” by hosting multiple crowdfunding projects.

As of today, IgnitionDeck will sell and support the theme, and Cr3ativ and IgnitionDeck will work together to ensure a smooth transition. The terms of Cr3ativ’s sale of GIG to IgnitionDeck, Inc. were not disclosed.
