Affordable RadRover Electric Bike Quickly Zooms Past Campaign Goal on Indiegogo

Rad Power Bikes, an electric bike company out of Seattle, Washington, is redefining the affordable electric bike with their electric fat bike, the RadRover. In just five days, the company surpassed their funding goal on Indiegogo and sold over 80 of their electric fat bikes.

RadRover 1The RadRover combines quality, dependability, and high-end features at a price point many pedal-only bikes are sold for. At $999 USD it’s easy to see why so many people are drawn to the campaign. Most electric fat bikes on the market, with the same high-end features, are sold at prices anywhere from $3,000-$8,000 USD each.

The RadRover ranges 20-50 miles on a single charge depending on rider’s weight, terrain, and level of pedal assist. Using a high-capacity Samsung battery pack the 48 volt RadRover is capable of longer run times and faster acceleration than lower voltage electric fat bikes. Using the twist throttle on the handle bar or pedal assist system, riders can easily reach the top speed of 20 mph.

President and Co-founder of Rad Power Bikes, Mike Radenbaugh, started the company in 2007 and primarily focused on custom electric bikes and providing guidance to DIY electric bike builders. After eight years in the electric bike space, Radenbaugh could not find an affordable quality off-the-shelf electric bike.

He explained:

RadRover 2 “From experience building custom electric bikes over the past eight years we’ve learned from customers about the needs of electric bike riders and how limited most off-the-shelf electric bikes are in terms of performance and value. It was time for someone to step in.”

The RadRover is designed to fit the needs of real-world electric bikers, ranging from beginner to advanced riders. The brushless DC hub motor and 750 watt controller provide riders with nearly twice the power of common store bought electric bikes while still traveling within the legal speed and power limit for electric assist bicycles in North America. The geared hub motor free wheels so users can pedal without resistance from the motor if they choose.

RadRover 3Combined with the Kenda four-inch wide tires, the RadRover allows riders to travel on terrain such as sand or snow. The large tires boost riders’ confidence because of the increased traction to the ground. Because the wheels use heavy-duty stainless steel spokes and double wall rims, the RadRover can accommodate larger riders, tough terrain, and heavy usage.

One of the more unique features of the RadRover is the LCD display, which not only tracks mileage, watts, battery life, and speed, but also allows for easy troubleshooting. The LCD screen displays an error code to alert riders of any issues within the electric bike. Riders can use the code and either refer to the RadRover owner’s manual, or contact Rad Power Bikes to resolve the issue.

RadRover 4Each bike also comes with a front headlight powered by the battery pack, a bell, LCD display and USB charger so you can charge your phone from the battery pack.

Radenbaugh then added:

“The RadRover’s after sales support and one-year warranty is a great option for anyone who wants a worry-free electric bike.”
