Brief: GoFundMe Campaign Debuts For THE LION KING on Broadway’s Nteliseng Nkhela & Aaron Nelson After Fire Destroys Homes

Shortly after a devastating fire destroyed their Edgewater Avalon apartment homes, co-stars and supporters of THE LION KING on Broadway’s Nteliseng Nkhela and Aaron Nelson took to crowdfunding platform GoFundMe to raise $10,000. Within only 21 hours, the campaign surpassed its initial goal and has reached over $14,000.

The Lion King on BroadwayAccording to BroadwayWorld, Nkhela and Nelson, who are currently playing Rafiki and Simba in The Lion King, lost their homes and belongs in the fire on Wednesday (January 21st). In an effort to help get them back on their feet, the duo’s castmates turned to GoFundMe to help get them back on their feet.

Christina Grant, a colleague of Nkhela and Nelson, wrote,“Aaron lived there with his wife and young son. Nteliseng lived there with her dog, Hazel. At this point, Hazel is still missing. This fund was created to help them all get back on their feet and cover any costs not covered by renter’s insurance. Any funds in excess of what is covered by insurance will go to help other victim’s of the Edgewater Fire.

Broadway.com also revealed that the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, with a local State of Emergency declared. There were no serious injures that were reported as a result of the blaze.

Meanwhile, co-star of the production, Derrick Davis, is planning a benefit concert at Time Square’s Urbo for the duo and others affected by the apartment fire.
