The Black Glove Creators Addresses Backers After Kickstarter Campaign Fails

Last month, former developers of BioShock and BioShock Infinite, Day For Night Games, debuted a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise $550,000 for its new video game, The Black Glove. Although it had a great start, the project failed to meet its initial goal and ended its run at $216,517.

The Black Glove 3As previously reported, The Black Glove takes place at the Equinox, an eerie 1920s theater that appears unstuck from conventional reality. The building is pervaded by weight dream logic, inexplicable holes in space, unshielded x-ray art installation, and tasteful use of crush velvet.

Inside the theater, there are three curator: the artist Marisol, the filmmaker Avery Arnault, and musical act Many Embers. Their work is in bad shape when you, the player, arrives and its taken a strange toll on the building. Time flows backwards in areas and weird things begin to peek out of the once-sealed doorways.

Playing the latest curator, you are responsible to get The Equinox back on its feet by changing the creators’ past to improve their work in the present. How is this possible? The hosts Hazel and Cribbage share that there are certain “games of skill and chance” that allow everyone to interact with the “fourth-dimensional space.”

Upon receiving the bad news about the campaign, the Day For Night Games’ co-founder, Joe Fielder, took to the campaign’s update section and wrote,”We mean to fight like hell to keep it from being cancelled. We believe in the game and you all have shown you do, too. We’ve received a lot of questions on whether we planned on immediately starting up another fundraising campaign for The Black Glove at a lower fundraising goal.”

The Black Glove 2“We asked for the total we needed to guarantee that we could self-publish the game within a year with 6+ hours worth of content for $20,” he explained. “If we turned around immediately and they asked for less without having secured the rest of the funds necessary, we wouldn’t be able to guarantee our Kickstarter backers that we could deliver the game.”

In regards to what’s next for the game, Fielder added, “We’re pursuing all options. We’re beginning to talk to all the publishers who have reached out over the last few weeks. We have a few other ideas, as well. It may be weeks or months before we have news to report, but we intend to be back with more as soon as possible.”
