Kickstarter’s Co-founder Launches New Service That is Dedicated to Helping Nonprofits

Dollar a Day 2Ready to bring his new project to life, Kickstarter’s co-founder and former CEO Perry Chen debuted a philanthropy service called Dollar a Day on Wednesday (October 1st). According to Re/Code, the platform is a email newsletter that features one nonprofit organization on a daily basis. Subscribers can sign up to become donators and send a dollar per day to each chosen organization.

The website reads,”Dollar a Day is a simple new way to discover and support amazing nonprofits. We feature one great organization every day, everyone automatically donates $1. Every day, we all give a dollar to the day’s featured nonprofit. No daily action – it’s automatic. Our (tiny daily email will tell you about the nonprofit we’re all support that day.”

During a recent phone interview, Chen stated, “We had this mantra of what is the simplest, smallest thing that could have a really big impact. I think there’s a lot of good intentions, and I think people don’t know which organization to support and don’t have the time to do their research. It’s a small bridge between the intention and being able to take more action.”

Perry Chen CEO of KickstarterGood also reported that Chen describes the new service is created by a “group of friends, mostly volunteers, who are trying to create something small that can have a really big impact.” He also noted that the daily emails inform anyone that is interested, not just backers, about the featured nonprofit. It’s just spreading the word about great organizations.

The main idea was to create a service that provides  everyone a way to discover nonprofits that are not always in the spotlight. Chen added, “It isn’t that easy, or maybe that often, that people learn about new nonprofits that might resonate with them. If people discover one or two nonprofits that really resonate with them and they go on to have further engagement with that nonprofit, I think that’s a huge success.”
