On Indiegogo: Shaq And Friends Crowdfunding A Sequel To His Terrible Video Game

Former NBA star and current analyst for TNT Shaquille O’Neal is crowdfunding on Indiegogo. The goal: to fund a sequel to Shaq Fu, a video game released in the mid-90’s.

Even Shaq would admit that Shaq Fu was terrible, but take a look at the preview trailer below. This new incarnation actually looks like it has some promise. It’s like a hip hop-infused Kung Fu Hustle

The trailer appropriately ends with “This time we won’t FU it up.”

shaq-fuBig Deez Productions is the shop behind the game and is said to include developers with experience on games like Halo and Street Fighter.

Shaq Fu is what the original game should have been – an instant classic.  We’re talking Streets of Rage meets Street Fighter meets Devil May Cry. It’s a modern day take on the classic beat ‘em up. Play as Shaquille O’Neal – learn hundreds of moves and battle techniques, take on thousands of enemies with dozens of cool melee weapons, battle bosses in dynamic arenas, master cool finishing moves and play with your buddies in COOP mode or against each other in player vs player combat.

The game is seeking $450,000 in a flexible funding campaign on Indiegogo and has raised about $70,000 to date with over 40 days left to go.

Of course, where there are celebrities in crowdfunding there’s sure to be a slew of one-of-a-kind rewards. Autographed merch, invites to the launch party and the option to have a move you submit turned into a real move in the game are all up for grabs.

5% of all proceeds from the game will go to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
