#HowSeattleRiots: Crowdfunding Riot Relief On GoFundMe

Let’s begin with some stereotypes of the northwest, shall we? It’s more relevant than it may seem…

The #HowSeattleRiots hashtag became the place to be for laughs about how insanely well the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl victory parade went. Not one arrest despite the fact that over 700,000 people showed up, which is more than the entire population of Seattle.

On Sunday February 2nd, the Seattle Seahawks made history by dominating Superbowl XLVIII and the 12th Man roared in triumph. From Bothell to the U-District, Ballard to Pioneer Square, we filled Seattle streets with our dancing, cheers, and Seattle’s iconic polite style of celebration. Polite or not, there was a party foul in Pioneer Square. Seattle’s historic Iron Pergola was damaged to the tune of $25,000. Now it is time to clean up after ourselves, because this is truly #HowSeattleRiots

The campaign was funded in under 12 hours thanks in part to a large $10,000 contribution from the Western Washington Honda Dealers. Funding was shut down despite some calling for it to continue to raise money for the city’s park system.

This is how every city should riot.
